Since January 2007, the Nursing Program in Bethel has been in full swing, with their first graduating class Fall Semester 2008! The Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation and the Kuskokwim Campus of the University of Alaska Fairbanks has provided a great amount of support for the nursing program.
There is a large cultural difference between village rural values and those of a large ethnically diverse urban campus and the expansion of the UAA Associate Degree Nursing program into rural areas require an onsite RRANN Student Success Coordinator.
Evelyn Pensgard, the RRANN/NWDP Student Success Facilitator currently has 15 nursing majors and pre-nursing students and the UAA Bethel outreach site Associate Nursing program recently celebrated their first graduating class.
