A key difference between clinics and
hospitals is the provision of inpatient care. However, many remote
Alaska clinics must provide inpatient and emergency care due to
geographic and weather barriers to transport. These outpatient clinics,
often federally qualified health centers or village clinics, are
ineligible for reimbursement for extended inpatient stays while
awaiting transport or dramatic, episodic emergency services. This
project is a demonstration to document the type, frequency, and
duration of services provided. The Alaska Center for Rural Health
– Alaska’s AHEC, serves as the evaluator for the FESC
project. Information about the participating clinics and project
structure is available at the provided website: http://www.alaskafesc.org. |
