The UAA School of Nursing is an integral part of the College of Health and Social Welfare. Other departments within the College include the School of Social Work, the Department of Human Services, the Justice Center, the Division of Health Sciences, the Center for Human Development, the Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies, the Institute for Circumpolar Health Studies, and the Alaska Center for Rural Health.

The School of Nursing has nearly 400 students enrolled in the practical nursing, AAS, BS, and MS nursing programs. Approximately 55 of those students are pursuing their studies while continuing to reside in communities distant from Anchorage.

The faculty is comprised of nearly 40 individuals, located in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Kodiak, Bethel, and Ketchikan. As a result of enrollment expansion, the faculty is expected to grow by nearly 25% over the next couple of years, with new faculty being located in Anchorage, Juneau, Sitka, and the Kenai Peninsula.

Staff of the School of Nursing numbers 21 individuals in clerical and professional positions. Staff members provide academic advising for students, manage the nursing computer and skills laboratories, provide technical support for computer operations, and provide clerical support for the academic program. Project RRANN, with a staff of three, seeks to increase the number of Alaska Natives/American Indians in the Registered Nurse Workforce in Alaska.
