| Question: |
I heard that there is now a summer session of nursing classes at UAA, dose this mean that there will also be an extra application deadline for the Bachelor's program (other than October 1 or February 1) added? |
| Answer: |
At this point there is no additional application deadline. The February deadline was used to fill both the summer and fall cohorts. There may be a new deadline added in the future. Marie Samson will be able to provide you with updated information on application deadlines. Her phone number is 786-4561. |

| Answer: |

I would recommend that you make an appointment with a nursing school advisor to share with them your college background and to obtain information about applying to the programs here - there are both AAS and BS programs. As elsewhere in the country, there is a high interest in the nursing programs. Doing very well in pre-requisite courses and preparing to potentially experience a waiting period between completing pre-requisites and beginning the clinical courses is important. At present we do not have a CNA program at UAA, but are offering college credit to those taking the CNA program at the Older Persons' Action Group in Anchorage. There is also a CNA program at AVTEC in Anchorage. |

It would depend on the area you are interested in pursuing, and whether you would be attending full or part time. To find out about the Master's programs at UAA, please look on the website at nursing.uaa.alaska.edu (no www) or call 786-4550. |

| Question: |
Is there a waiting list to get inot the BSN Nursing program? |
| Answer: |
There is not a true waiting list - once you have satisfactorily completed all pre-requisite courses and you apply to the program, every effort is made to assign you a clinical seat. However, the next available seat may be as much as two years away, so it is important to plan for that waiting period. |

| Question: |
I am the Career Resource Advisor at Dimond High School. A student, interested in the UAA nursing program, said she had heard of a program at UAA where one of our local hospitals paid for part of their tuition if the student agreed to work for that hospital upon graduation. Any truth to this rumor? |
| Answer: |
We are not aware of Anchorage facilities that have provided tuition support in exchange for a time commitment on graduation, though that has been true for some of the rural hospitals. You might want to contact the student advisor, Marie Samson, 786-4561, to discuss student support opportunities available in Anchorage, or suggest that the student make an appointment to discuss her situation with Marie. |

| Question: |
How long does it usually take to get accepted to the nursing program? |
| Answer: |
It depends which program you are applying for. The first step is to complete all pre-requisites to the nursing program you are interested in. You may want to talk with an advisor; if so, please call 786-4550 for an appointment. The AAS program is available in Anchorage and also in 10 outreach sites. A person applies to the site of their choice and admission will depend on several factors, including their GPA. The BS program is available in Anchorage. Once an applicant has completed all pre-requisites with an acceptable GPA, they are placed in a clinical seat and typically this is up to two years in advance. Students are encouraged to complete co-requisite coursework, pursue a related minor, find work in the field, or to otherwise make relevant use of the waiting period. There are a large number of students seeking to enter nursing schools in the country, so it is very competitive and some waiting time is common. |
