SERVING ALASKA NATIVE AND AMERICAN INDIAN NURSING STUDENTS

UAA SOUTHEAST - SITKA CAMPUS

There is a large cultural difference between village rural values and those of a large ethnically diverse urban campus and the expansion of the UAA Associate Degree Nursing program into rural areas require an onsite RRANN Student Success Coordinator. The University of Alaska Southeast (UAS) began in Spring 2005 and is responsible for Sitka, Juneau and Kethcikan sites.

Since it's inception, UAS has had over 10 graduates, with more expected by Spring and Fall 2009!

It takes about two years to complete just the prerequisite and co-requisite courses for the AAS program and as a result, it is reasonable to expect a lag between the time an outreach program is made available and the time potential Alaska Native nursing students are ready to apply.
