ASSOCIATE OF APPLIED SCIENCE
Graduates of the AAS Program are prepared to provide direct nursing
care to individuals in inpatient settings and structured outpatient
settings. The program provides students with a closely related
mix of theory and clinical practice. Students gain clinical experience
in hospitals, nursing homes, and clinics. The program requires
a minimum of two years of full-time study.
Admission Prerequisites
- High School Algebra or MATH 055 or math placement test (showing
ability to take MATH 105)
- High School Biology with lab or BIOL 102 & BIOL 103, or BIOL
111/L
- High School Chemistry with lab or CHEM 055 or higher level chemistry
Admission Requirements
- Minimum High School or college grade point average of 2.0 is required;
prior UAA students must have a cumulative UAA GPA of 2.0 or higher
- UAA Undergraduate application and AAS nursing pre-major status
and transcript evaluations if needed
- School of Nursing application, three letters of recommendation
and confidential form
- Completion of 15 college credits or SAT, ACT or ACCUPLACER scores
- Nurse Entrance Test (NET) score
- Evidence of receiving academic advising from a nursing advisor
The deadline for completing the application process for the Anchorage
campus is February 1. For outreach sites the deadline
for completing the application process is July 1, prior
to the scheduled spring start date. Admission is determined by
the applicant's rank among other applicants in relation to program requirements.
Progression in the program requires that students maintain a cumulative
grade point average of 2.0 or higher and earn grades of C or higher
or Pass in all required nursing courses.
Degree Requirements
A total of 70 credits are required for the Associate of Applied Science,
Nursing degree; including 20 credits at the 200-level (built into the
program). These credits are taken in the following areas:
